The New LIFE School has a team of seasoned professionals with extensive experience working with children and youth in New York City. Staff members at The New LIFE School provide a great deal of individualized attention to increase the self-esteem and academic progress of our students. This is achieved through our low student-to-staff ratio. Our staff provides a family-like atmosphere for the students to help them feel comfortable, supported and encouraged.

Rachel Levine Kornfeld Mrs. Kornfeld received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. She was the second staff member hired for the The New LIFE School as a school social worker in July of 2006. She continued her education while working at The New LIFE School and earned a second Master’s degree in School Building Leadership from Mercy College. Mrs. Kornfeld has functioned as the Director of Clinical Services, Principal, and most recently as the Executive Director for Education Services. She is extremely passionate about providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people to grow, as individuals, in their academic and social emotional functioning. Mrs. Kornfeld coined the term,” The New LIFE School makes the school fit the student, not the student to the school.” This is her longstanding commitment to ensure a quality individualized education for all students at TNLS.

Matthew Tucker Dr. Matthew Tucker holds a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and Master’s degrees in education, with an extension in students with disabilities, as well as a second Master’s degree in school building administration from Mercy College. In addition, Dr. Tucker received his doctor of education in interdisciplinary leadership from Creighton University. He has spent 13 years in the public school sector as a teacher, program director and dean of students. Most recently, Dr. Tucker stepped into the role of assistant principal at The New Life School. Dr. Tucker is a certified NYS school teacher and school building administrator. “The best part of being an Assistant Principal at The New LIFE School is having the opportunity to impact the lives of our students by providing a differentiated educational experience that will prepare them for life beyond the classroom.”
